The only game series that will make you crap your pants out of fear. Twice.
It's also an action game that delves into the world of psychological and visual horror, so you are either grossed out or in constant fear of something bizarre happening.
Luckily for those experiencing the game, both occur with some frequency.
There aren't really any other games like it, except for Konami's "Forbidden Siren" (or just "Siren" in the USA) which was made by one or more people from the Silent Hill staff. It's something like a Metal Gear Solid meets Silent Hill mixture, and reviews show that players love it. More information here:
Much like Fatal Frame 2, Forbidden Siren is overpriced at the moment but should hit the pricing sweet spot in a few months. Unless Konami does what they did with Silent Hill 3 and abruptly stop manufacturing the game, leaving people to scramble for used copies.
The holy grail for any Silent Hill fan is the beta version of the original game. I've finally found some proof of a real beta version, found at an eBay auction. Here's the jewel case title card artwork:

"Alot of European / Australian owners of Silent Hill 1 are aware (and many are not) that our release of this game is highly censored. It contained edited written dialogue throughout the game, certain enemies have been removed, certain locations are changed, and different items appear in different areas.
The NTSC (USA) release of Silent Hill 1 features all the uncensored material, so in most cases, the only way to experience the uncensored Silent Hill 1 is to get a mod chip for your Playstation and import / pirate the USA version of the game.
However, what I have up for auction here is one of my two copies of the AUSTRALIAN / EUROPEAN (PAL! NOT NTSC!) pre-release version of Silent Hill that is now almost non existent!
This release of the game does not feature the entire game from start to end, and only features certain scenes that do well to show the dramatic differences between the censored version and uncensored. ALL aspects of this game are FULLY playable. Not a rolling demo or simple video footage.
Overall, as a comparison, if it took 4 hours to complete Silent Hill 1, this version of the game would take 1:30 to complete. This is a rough estimation of the amount of the final game's content that is in this pre-release."
Still looking for any information about pre-release versions of Silent Hill, including playable demos (the type included with magazines) beta versions, and unplayable demos (the kind shown at video game expositions).
Who's Robbie?Robbie the Rabbit is one of the official mascot characters for Lakeside Amusement Park. Robbie was featured in one of those DDR/Bemani games before appearing in Silent Hill 3. Here's his disgusting pseudo cute-and-cuddly mug:

Konami's "Lost Memories" DVD features a mini-movie of Robbie's activities presumably in Brookhaven Hospital. A low-bandwidth version of this movie is available from Konami here:

IGN, in their infinite stupidity and sheer incompetance, has reviewed Silent Hill 4 so poorly that it sounds that there are additions to the game for the US release, such as a riddle difficulty select. Nobody has confirmed if this is true yet, and IGN certainly can't be trusted.
